SUMMARY:Dark Retreat\, Psychedelics\, and Virtual Reality – Promise or Peril?
DESCRIPTION:Dark Retreat\, Psychedelics\, and Virtual Reality – Promise or Peril?\nWith Andrew Holecek and Robert Thurman\nSeptember 16 – 22\, 2024 – Menla Retreat Center – In the Catskills in Phoenicia\, NY\nA unique hybrid (in-person or online) retreat utilizing specially prepared dark rooms as well as virtual reality (equipment is provided).\nDark retreat is one of the most transformative meditations ever devised. This ancient practice is making a comeback as celebrities proclaim its benefits. Darkness can unleash the power of the luminous mind\, bring light to the world\, and ironically provide an antidote to this Dark Age. Psychedelics are taking the globe by storm. Entheogens can remove your fear of death\, jump start your meditation\, and change the course of your life. Virtual reality offers a revolution in pedagogy. Virtual Reality can spark psycho-spiritual evolution\, and modernize meditations like dream yoga\, deity yoga\, and bardo yoga. What do these three tools have in common? What is the science that supports their outrageous claims? How can you safely and effectively use them in your life? \nWhen used properly\, dark retreat\, psychedelics\, and virtual reality have the potential to light you up. When used improperly\, they can readily burn you up. This highly experiential retreat explores the opportunities and obstacles in these ancient and modern methods\, revealing their potential to accelerate personal and societal transformation. Topics include: \n\nSutra vs tantra dark retreat\nMulticultural support for dark practice\nWhy is dark retreat so transformative?\nInner and outer light pollution as the sinister core of the Dark Age\nThe risks of dark retreat\nHow to work with fear and resistance\nThe place of psychedelics on the spiritual path\nWhich entheogens are right for you?\nPsychedelic-assisted psychotherapy\n Can super-samsara be a good thing?\nPsychedelics as modern tantra – are we kidding ourselves?\nVirtual reality for increasing empathy and compassion\nThe issue of addiction and alternative world syndrome\nVirtual reality in mental health therapy and meditation\nVirtual reality\, neurogenesis\, and neuroplasticity\nHow to use dark retreat\, psychedelics\, and virtual reality to remove the fear of death\nIndications and contraindications for dark retreat\, psychedelics\, and virtual reality\nThe importance of preparation\, integration\, and incorporation\nThe history and science behind it all\nThe future\n\nNote: This is a hybrid retreat\, the online participants will be given instructions on how to create your own dark space at home. Those joining online will not have the ability to participate in the virtual reality segments of the retreat. \nPlease note that while we will discuss psychedelics thoroughly\, no psychedelic medicines will actually be used during this retreat. \nThis retreat is hosted and administered by the Menla\, Phoenicia\, NY.  Because of this\, we are not able to offer any Night Club member discount to this event. SUMMARY:Nonduality and the Nature of Mind - Menla in Catskill Mountains\, NY
DESCRIPTION:This unique retreat is an exploration of the nature of mind from the nondual traditions of Tibetan Buddhism and Hindu Saiva Tantra. While based on these noble paths\, the program is trans-religious\, pointing out timeless truths that transcend any tradition. It is based on the radical proclamation that the enlightened state is always already present\, forever right here and now\, hiding in plain sight. The path is therefore one of recognition — and the immediate self-liberation that ensues from that open perception.. \nA Unique Weeklong In-Person Event at Menla with Andrew and Robert A.F. Thurman\nWhile open to all\, this program is ideal for those who have attended the bardo series with Andrew and Bob. If you have questions about your eligibility\, please reach out to Andrew at andrew@andrewholecek.com. \n \n Program Details and Registration

SUMMARY:Death and the Art of Dying: Luminous Bardo of Dharmata
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Andrew with Robert A.F. Thurman\nA Two Weekend Program Online February 11-13\, 2022\, March 11-13\, 2022\nThis is part of an on-going series of online retreats designed to give you a complete preparation for death by understanding the three death bardos or “transitional processes.” Each retreat is a stand-alone program.  This is a unique program in that I have the great pleasure to be teaching it with renowned teacher\, author and worldwide authority in Tibetan Buddhism\, Professor Robert A.F. Thurman. \nIf we are prepared\, death is the crowning moment of life – our greatest opportunity for enlightenment. The karma that brought us into this life is exhausted\, and the habits that will propel us into our next one have not yet formed. This gap (bardo) provides a golden opportunity for rapid spiritual progress. \nThese two weekends explore the energies of this bardo\, showing how they also manifest in each thought and emotion. With specific meditations that prepare us for this part of the death process\, we will learn how to glimpse this bardo every night when we fall asleep\, and between each and every thought. \n \n Program Details and Registration\n \n \n \n \n \n I’m particularly excited about this retreat with Bob Thurman\, who many of you know as a real authority in the world of the bardos. Here is an interview I did with Bob\, to give you a sense of that authority: \n \nNight Club Podcast · Interview | Robert Thurman

SUMMARY:The Art of Dying to Live: An Exploration of Life\, Death\, and the Afterlife
DESCRIPTION:Andrew is pleased to be a part of this extensive online conference and practice retreat\, The Art of Dying to Live. This is produced by THUS/Menla a great organization that Andrew has had the pleasure of presenting with in the past. Andrew and this lineup of wonderful\, impressive speakers will ensure a remarkable event. \nThis is THUS/Menla’s new incarnation of a powerfully transformative event Tibet House US launched with the New York Open Center 20 years ago\, which introduced thousands to the cheerful exploration of the realities of death and dying as the doorway to living ever more vibrantly in the precious moments of life. Over these five days\, experienced practitioners will present visions and lead practices drawn from spiritual wisdom\, scientific insight\, and time-tested experiential methods of dealing with death and dying that immeasurably enrich the lives of those facing death\, as well as those facing bereavement. \nJoin us to explore ancient and modern understandings and engagements with the arts of dying and living through the lenses of different traditions\, including Tibetan and Zen Buddhist\, Christian\, Hindu\, Judaic\, and Shamanic traditions. Study the nature of death as part of life\, and compare all visions of possible afterlife experiences from existential to theistic to shamanic. \n \n Program Details and Registration
